Child Protect Training Portal

Accessibility Statement

This Accessibility Statement explains how Child Protect aims to make the Training Portal easier to access and use for learners, parents, caregivers, schools, organizations, trusted adults, and visitors with different needs, devices, abilities, and assistive technologies.

Accessibility and Safety Notice

This Accessibility Statement is provided for transparency and general platform guidance. It does not replace legal advice, school policy, disability accommodation processes, emergency services, medical care, child protection authority guidance, or regulatory obligations. Schools and organizations remain responsible for their own accessibility, safeguarding, data protection, learning support, and Ministry of Education related responsibilities when using the platform.

Our accessibility commitment

Child Protect is designed to support safeguarding training for many types of learners and trusted adults. We aim to make training content clear, readable, structured, usable with assistive technologies where possible, and easier to navigate across common devices.

👁️

Clear and readable content

We aim to use clear headings, readable text, meaningful page structure, and plain language where possible.

⌨️

Usable navigation

We aim to support predictable navigation, keyboard-friendly access, clear links, and consistent page layouts.

🤝

Support when barriers appear

If a user cannot access training, support can help identify the issue and look for a reasonable way forward.

Accessibility approach

We use widely recognized accessibility principles as a guide. Our goal is for portal content and training pages to be easier to perceive, operate, understand, and use reliably with different browsers, devices, and assistive technologies.

Principle What it means How it supports training users
Perceivable Users should be able to see, hear, or otherwise receive the information being presented. Clear text, meaningful headings, image descriptions where appropriate, and readable layouts help more users access training content.
Operable Users should be able to navigate and interact with the portal. Keyboard access, visible links, predictable buttons, and consistent navigation help learners complete training steps.
Understandable Information and interface behavior should be clear and predictable. Plain language, logical order, clear form labels, and helpful support text help users understand what to do next.
Robust Content should work with common browsers, devices, and assistive technologies. Structured pages and standard web practices help support screen readers, mobile devices, and future improvements.

Why accessibility matters for safeguarding training

Safeguarding training should be available to the people who need it. Accessibility barriers can prevent learners, parents, caregivers, staff, volunteers, or trusted adults from understanding safety information, completing training, or accessing certificates.

  • Students and child learners may need age-aware, readable, and well-structured training pages.
  • Parents and caregivers may use phones, tablets, older devices, or different browsers to access training.
  • Users with visual, hearing, motor, learning, language, or cognitive needs may require accessible layouts and support options.
  • Schools and organizations may need to support staff, learners, parents, and volunteers with different accessibility needs.
  • Accessible training helps more users understand online safety, personal safety, trusted adults, reporting concerns, and getting help.
  • Completion certificates should be reachable by users who have completed required training steps where enabled.

Accessibility features we aim to support

The portal may change over time, but these are the types of accessibility improvements and support practices we aim to maintain and improve.

Content and reading support

  • Clear page titles and section headings.
  • Readable paragraph lengths and plain-language explanations.
  • Meaningful links that describe where they go.
  • Consistent page structure across policy and training pages.
  • Readable color contrast where possible.
  • Helpful notices for safety, privacy, certificates, and learner support.
  • Content that avoids unnecessary technical or legal language where possible.

Navigation and interaction support

  • Consistent navigation menus and page flow.
  • Keyboard-accessible links and form controls where supported by the platform.
  • Clear buttons and calls to action.
  • Predictable account, training, progress, and certificate access areas.
  • Responsive layouts for mobile, tablet, and desktop use.
  • Form labels and support text where forms are used.
  • Reduced reliance on images alone to explain important information.

Assistive technology and user settings

Users may access the portal with screen readers, browser zoom, keyboard navigation, mobile accessibility tools, translation tools, captions, or device-level accessibility settings. Some experiences may depend on the user’s device, browser, assistive technology, course content, or third-party embedded tools.

1

Use browser and device settings

Users may adjust zoom, text size, contrast, display settings, keyboard navigation, captions, or screen reader tools depending on their device.

2

Try a current browser

Updated browsers often provide better accessibility, security, and compatibility with training pages and account features.

3

Ask for support if blocked

If a learner cannot access a course, form, progress page, or certificate, contact support or the school or organization administrator.

4

Request an alternative format where possible

When training access is blocked by an accessibility barrier, Child Protect, the school, or the organization may look for a reasonable alternative support path.

Accessibility should support child safety

Accessibility is especially important for safeguarding training because users may need to understand safety information before a concern happens. If a learner, parent, caregiver, staff member, or trusted adult cannot access training content, they may miss important guidance about online safety, personal safety, trusted adults, reporting concerns, certificates, or getting help.

Known accessibility limits

We aim to improve accessibility, but some limitations may remain because of platform features, third-party tools, user devices, browser settings, older content, uploaded media, or external links.

Possible limitations

  • Older uploaded images or documents may not have complete alternative text.
  • Some third-party video, payment, analytics, or embedded tools may have their own accessibility limits.
  • Some course media may need captions, transcripts, or alternative formats depending on the course design.
  • Some PDF, image, or downloadable resources may not fully support screen readers.
  • Some themes, plugins, or legacy platform features may not fully meet every accessibility criterion.
  • Some browser extensions, cookie blockers, or school network settings may affect training access.

How we respond

  • Review reported barriers and prioritize issues that affect training access or safety content.
  • Improve headings, labels, colors, links, and layout where issues are found.
  • Look for alternative ways to provide access when a user cannot complete required training.
  • Work with schools or organizations when learner accommodations are needed.
  • Review third-party tools when they create accessibility barriers.
  • Improve future course design based on learner and organization feedback.

School and organization responsibilities

Schools and organizations that assign training may have their own accessibility and learning support responsibilities. They should help ensure learners, staff, parents, caregivers, and trusted adults can access assigned training in a fair and appropriate way.

  • Identify learners or staff who may need accessibility support before assigning required training.
  • Provide accessible devices, browsers, network access, or supported learning environments where possible.
  • Help parents, guardians, caregivers, or learners understand how to access training.
  • Review course access on school-managed devices before requiring completion.
  • Provide reasonable support or alternative arrangements where a learner cannot access required content.
  • Protect child learner privacy when providing accessibility support.
  • Follow applicable school policies, disability support processes, safeguarding policies, and Ministry of Education related responsibilities.
  • Report accessibility barriers that prevent learners from completing required training.

Accessibility and child learner data

Accessibility support may involve information about a learner’s needs, device access, course progress, or support requests. This information should be handled carefully and only used for appropriate training, support, safeguarding, or accommodation purposes.

  • Do not publish or share a learner’s accessibility needs without proper authority.
  • Do not use accessibility support needs to shame, label, exclude, or unfairly treat a child learner.
  • Limit access to support information to people who need it to help the learner.
  • Use accessibility information only for training access, learner support, safeguarding, or accommodation purposes.
  • Review the Privacy Policy and Child Data Notice for information about personal data and child learner records.
  • Contact the school, organization administrator, parent, guardian, or Child Protect support if accessibility data appears incorrect or misused.

How to report an accessibility barrier

Users should report accessibility barriers that prevent them from reading content, accessing courses, completing training, submitting forms, reviewing progress, or using certificates.

1

Describe the page or feature

Tell us the page URL, course name, form, dashboard area, certificate page, or training step where the barrier happened.

2

Explain the barrier

Explain whether the issue relates to reading, contrast, keyboard access, screen reader use, captions, forms, mobile layout, downloads, or another problem.

3

Share device details if possible

Helpful details may include browser, device type, screen reader, operating system, school device, mobile device, or assistive technology being used.

4

Request support

Use the contact page or ask your school or organization administrator for help if the accessibility issue blocks required training.

Immediate safety concerns

Accessibility support and contact forms are not emergency channels. If a child is in immediate danger or there is an urgent safeguarding concern, contact the appropriate local emergency service, child protection service, school safeguarding contact, parent or guardian, or trusted authority right away.

Continuous improvement

Accessibility is an ongoing process. We aim to improve the portal as training content, user feedback, platform features, legal expectations, assistive technology, and school or organization needs change.

  • Review reported accessibility barriers.
  • Improve page headings, link text, layout, forms, and readable content.
  • Review color contrast and mobile layout where issues are found.
  • Improve course content accessibility where training materials are updated.
  • Consider captions, transcripts, or alternative formats where course media requires them.
  • Improve support guidance for learners, parents, caregivers, schools, and organizations.
  • Use feedback to prioritize improvements that affect training access, safety content, and certificate completion.
