Trusted Adult Training
Trusted adult training helps parents, caregivers, school staff, volunteers, and responsible adults understand how to listen, respond calmly, support children, and follow appropriate safeguarding pathways when help is needed.
Helping adults become safer support points
A trusted adult may be the first person a child speaks to when something feels unsafe, confusing, uncomfortable, or wrong. Training helps adults understand how to respond without panic, blame, judgment, or unsafe promises.
Listen calmly
Help adults understand how to give children attention, stay calm, avoid blame, and take concerns seriously.
Support safely
Reinforce supportive language, appropriate boundaries, trusted communication, and responsible next steps.
Follow the right pathway
Help adults know when to involve parents, school contacts, safeguarding leads, organization leaders, or appropriate support services.

A simple trusted adult response framework
Adults do not need to have every answer. They need to know how to listen, support, and involve the right help.
Listen
Give the child your attention, stay calm, and let them speak without interrupting, blaming, or pressing for unnecessary details.
Reassure
Thank the child for telling you, remind them that asking for help was the right thing to do, and avoid making promises that cannot be kept.
Protect
Focus on immediate safety, appropriate supervision, and reducing further risk while following the correct support pathway.
Report or get help
Contact the appropriate parent, caregiver, school leader, safeguarding contact, organization leader, or support service as required.
A trusted adult should not investigate
When a child shares a concern, the trusted adult’s role is to listen, support, protect, and follow the correct pathway. Adults should not investigate, confront others, pressure the child for details, or promise secrecy. The priority is safety and responsible support.
